Mercedes Benz Canada

WORKING WITH Mercedes-benz canada

My story

Hello. You're probably wondering what this entire thing is about, so let's start at the beginning...

My name is Matt Scobel, born in Niagara Falls, Canada. Up until this point, my career has been a bit of an oxymoron. I've been a chef at a fine dining restaurant, managed customer service teams for Apple, ran a professional basketball team, setup Mac computer labs in Kenya and even founded a VC funded tech startup here in Canada.

However, the last few years of my life have been pretty vanilla. Don't get me wrong, I love the work I've been doing at Canon, but I'm starting to get that "I might end up doing this for the rest of my life vibe".

So starting in June 2017, I'm starting over. I'm selling everything that won't fit into my car and heading off on a 150 day adventure across Canada. I'm driving from coast to coast, covering as much this country as I can to celebrate Canada 150 - our 150th year anniversary.

Here's the most exciting part though. Along the way I'll be launching a new podcast and media channel called People.Place.Thing. I'll be traveling from town to town interviewing our country's most fascinating people, visiting our most breathtaking locations and trying just about every thing thats available (and legal) to try.

I'll also be using the skills that I learned at Canon to capture our country with still and motion photography. I've become addicted to capturing photos and video have just begun to share the photos I've taken over the last two years online. They've been getting a lot of attention and I'm quickly building an audience on sites like Instagram.

Since the middle of January, I've been growing by close to 1,000 followers per week on Instagram. I'm on pace to hit just under 20K before I leave in June and close to 50K by the end of the trip. That's without telling my followers about this upcoming photography adventure across Canada!

Along the way, I've even experimented with some videography as well. I captured this video with my DJI Mavic Pro aerial drone.

If that car looks familiar, it is. That happens to be my 2016 Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 that I picked up from the amazing team at Victoria Star Motors in Kitchener

I leased this vehicle back when I thought I would be working in big companies like Canon for the rest of my life.  Now, I'm doing a 180 and planning on enjoying every single KM of that lease on some of Canada's most exhilarating roads.

That's why I'm reaching out to Mercedes-Benz Canada. I already have an amazing Mercedes vehicle to drive and I think the trip and  new podcast are going to get a lot of attention.  I would love to share my experience with the GLA45 and it's love of Canada's highways with as many people as possible!

Although the current plan is to focus on the next 150 days in Canada, the long term plan for People.Place.Thing is to continue south and complete new seasons of the podcast in the United States, Central America all the way down to the tip of South America. Then why stop at that point? A flight across the pond, a new vehicle and the adventure can begin on a brand new continent.

I have a lot of great ideas on how I can work with Mercedes-Benz Canada this summer to bring attention to a brand I already love. Between photo-ops with the GLA45 at each of our National Parks, to meet-ups with fellow AMG drives, to interviewing some of Mercedes-Benz most interesting customers and even a few Sprinter Van Excursions to bring more attention to the new Mercedes Benz Vans channel (this will be the next vehicle I buy from Mercedes-Benz without a doubt!).

If you've taken the time to read this far, I would love to share more about these ideas see if we can work together to help more Canadian's fall in love with the best cars you can buy in Canada! I can be reached at the information below. Looking forward to chatting!
